The Fraunhofer Development Center for X-ray Technology, a division of Fraunhofer IIS, has presented a novel testing option for batteries in electric vehicles. In collaboration with Munich University of Applied Sciences, measurement results from preliminary studies were presented for the Air research project (drive battery inspection using X-rays). The system allows the mechanical integrity of battery modules to be visually assessed by taking an X-ray image of the vehicle and the drive battery mounted in the underbody. For this purpose, the vehicle is driven into the measuring system. Even in fully encapsulated battery modules, it is possible to examine the battery in detail in order to make statements about the mechanical condition of.
