Computer Laminography for Testing Large Components

The Clara computer laminography system from Fraunhofer EZRT can be used to examine very large, flat objects, e.g. from the wind power or aircraft sector, for internal structures or defects. The system can examine objects up to 1.5m wide and 300kg in weight. Computer laminography is a special variant of X-ray CT. While CT creates volume images of the interior of the object, laminography images the object layer by layer. It lies between the X-ray source and detector. However, in contrast to CT, where the object has to be X-rayed from all sides, the source and detector always remain on one side of the object being examined.
