ZwickRoell’s 2D-DIC (Digital Image Correlation) analysis tool generates additional information on the behavior of specimens in mechanical tests beyond standard strain measurement – especially for testing flat components. For example, 3M uses the tool to provide its customers with further information on adhesive products. The data obtained can be used to visualize deformations and strains over the entire visible surface of the specimen, in addition to typical standard values from tensile tests. So-called strain maps allow a detailed color analysis of the specimen behavior. For the measurement, a pattern is sprayed onto the specimen, which is also used for axial strain measurement.
